Important Tips on Maintenance of Porcelain Paving

If you are using porcelain pavers in your patio or garden, you will be happy to hear that these pavers are relatively maintenance-free. A sweep with a broom is more than sufficient to get rid of the accumulated dirt on the tile. And, you do not even have to sweep every day; you can sweep it about twice a week, and it will look as good as new.

However, if you want to bring a sheen onto the pavers after sweeping, mix a quarter cup of white vinegar in about two gallons of water. Use this solution to mop the porcelain pavers with a sponge mop. It will make the Outdoor Porcelain Tile sparkle and glisten.

There is no doubt that porcelain pavers are extremely easy to clean. However, there are times when the tile can get stained due to spills, elements, and other external and environmental factors. Of course, you may wonder how this happens as the pavers are impervious. Well, nothing in life is certain and the same holds true for porcelain tiles. If the tiles are unglazed, they can get a stain. For instance, they can take over the colour of the cleaning solution.

Here are some tips on how to maintain porcelain pavers and keep them looking good, always.

Maintaining Unpolished Porcelain Tiles

If the porcelain paver is unglazed or unpolished, here are the steps to follow to clean it:

  • Sweep the dirt and debris from the surface of the tiles. If you like, you can also use your vacuum to clean it.
  • Cover the tiled surface with hot water and pH neutral cleaning solution
  • Allow the water to stand for about five to 10 minutes. Ensure that the cleaning solution does not dry out
  • Use a scrub brush to scrub the pavers and get rid of stains
  • Wipe away the cleaning solution and water, and rinse the floor thoroughly. If you have a wet vacuum cleaner, it will be ideal for sucking up the water
  • Let the pavers dry

Maintaining Textured Porcelain Pavers

Due to the very nature of textured porcelain pavers, merely moping will not suffice. You have to take the cleaning a notch higher. Also, unlike unglazed and polished porcelain tiles, textured porcelain pavers require more frequent cleaning.

  • Get rid of dirt and debris from the pavers with the help of a soft-bristled brush or vacuum cleaner
  • When using the brush, clean back and forth to prevent the dirt from getting lodged into the textured surface
  • Use a pH neutral cleaning solution and hot water, and douse the pavers well
  • Let the solution stand for about five to 10 minutes before scrubbing with a soft-bristled brush. Don’t forget to scrub in the direction of the texture and then diagonally to dislodge embedded dirt and grime
  • Rinse the Outdoor Porcelain Tile thoroughly to get rid of the cleaning solution
  • If the pavers are subject to high foot traffic, it is advisable to wet mop the tiles several times a day to prevent them from looking grubby. You would also need to wash the surface at least once a day to maintain the look and feel.

Maintaining Polished Porcelain Pavers

For general cleaning of polished porcelain tiles, stick to the following cleaning procedure:

  • If there is loose dirt or soil on the pavers, sweep it away. You can also vacuum clean it
  • Use a dry dust mop to sweep and not a broom, as it could be abrasive and scratch the polished surface.
  • Use a pH neutral cleaning detergent to mop the tiles
  • Make sure you rinse the tiles with water to get rid of all traces of the detergent
  • Gently dry and buff the tiles with a lint-free, soft rag to impart a sheen and eliminate the chances of watermarks
